Women on Wheels

Brief History: Women on Wheels began in the summer of 2021, when six women participated in the St Louis PCA’s HPDE, the most women the club had ever had at any singular DE. With encouragement from the HPDE committee and financial support from STL PCA, the original six women formed the Track Sisters and the first WoW was held three months later where we welcomed 40 new women to the track!

And Now: The program has changed a little over the years and is now part of our Summer HPDE, where the Beginner Run Group is dedicated to hosting women only, and the remainder of the Run Groups are a blend of women and men. This format allows first timers to enjoy their initial class and track experience in the company of women, but also to see how easily women blend into the track environment throughout our standard DE program as evidenced by the 15 women who regularly participate in most of our 3 annual HPDEs.

Nervous? We understand that women are sometimes hesitant to even attempt driving on the track. It can be overwhelming and possibly a bit scary. “Will I be fast enough, I know very little about cars and don’t want to ask a question that makes me look stupid, I don’t want to sit in a room full of testosterone, much less share the track with them”, we’ve heard so many reasons why women shy away from the sport and many of our regular women drivers had the same concerns, which is exactly why we developed Women on Wheels! WoW is a safe and fun way to spend a day on the track, and we have a fabulous support system in place, from our instructors (which are mostly men), the DE Team, the other participants, everyone is so encouraging and the Women on Wheels beginner classroom is taught by one of our female instructors, plus the Track Sisters will be there to answer your questions every step of the way!

Will you fit in? Yes! The Track Sisters are comprised of young and not-so-young women, single, married, some have husbands who drive, some don’t, some have older cars, some newer, they are a fantastic cross-section of gals who like to have fun on and off the track!

So, what’s next? If you’re curious, but still not sure this is for you, might we suggest either signing up for the Track EXPerience (where you ride one session with an instructor) or come out to the track on an HPDE Sunday to drive Parade Laps at 12:30pm just to check things out. Or, better yet, just grab a friend and sign up for this year’s Women on Wheels, after all it’s only one day and who knows, you might be surprised just how much fun it is!
